I'm sorry, I don't know what it is but I'm sure it isn't a precious metal. It is a pretty gold looking chain and it looks like two chains lightly entwined making a sturdier chain.

To see if its real gold check the clasp or what its attached to the necklace with, it should say either 12,14,18,22 or 24k g, gf,gp, gp .925, or hge. this is really pretty i fanned thanks!

klynnh...I am sure this is not real gold, just a very convincing gold tone. The chain is in plastic and the plastic is taped to the back of the insert so I can't really see the clasp except that it is what I call a "normal" clasp..an O clasp. It really is pretty and has a very nice sparkle. They make clones so well today that it is extremely difficult to tell them from the "real" gems and gold.
