Yes it matters, most companies make you pay to switch from a contract phone to make it prepaid.

I believe most HTC phones backs can't be removed easily so if u still have box it should be on there. I know of three ways to find it otherwise. Using the dial method. Looking under battery. And looking in settings. I'll pm the instructions to u.
