they were made by a dear friend of mine, ceramics artist mandy farnsworth. as to their whether or not they are foodsafe - i have not tested them, but because these are high-fire ceramics and because of who i know mandy to be (very organic norcal girl) that had not occurred to me - i personally just assumed they were foodsafe. we live in a very hippyville northern california community - even our tampons are organic - seriously! i've felt comfortable drinking from them, but in truth i can't promise 100%.
