READ FULLY!!
Dell Vostro 1000 laptop- manufactured in 2007 (I believe) and still going strong accept for two (2) known issues. In my photos you will see a shot of a damaged hinge. This has not yet affected performance, but it should be replaced. Issue 2- A fresh copy of xp pro has been installed, but certain drivers are missing, these are available online, but the Ethernet Controller driver, and the Network drivers need to be installed manually first. I got a quote of 20 bucks for my techie to do that. You may already know how to do this stuff. It's not hard.
Here is a list of the other missing drivers:
Base system device
PCI Device
PCI Device
SM Buss Controller
USB Controller
Video Controller (VGA Comp.)
All available online. Free.

Computer Specs:
XP Pro
AMD Athlon 64X2
Dual Core Processor TK-53
1.7 GHz
896 MB RAM
Total Space 111 GB
Available Space 109GB
DVD/CD player
4 USB slots
VGA conn.
Battery good.
XP is not getting support any longer. So you have to do your own maintenence. UNLESS! You download Linix OS which is very nice. Ubuntu is free. Gets rid of the whole problem, drivers and all.
Anyhow, it's very do-able. Especially if your so inclined.

NOWWWWW since XP is no longer supported you will not be able to get these drivers online unless u get them from dell and then there will be no updates for these drivers which means they prob wont work but good news which IF I WIN will be to load windows 7 so only issue left IS THE DAMAGED HINGE which if u didnt break the top it is an inexpensive fix SOOOOOOOO definitely worth the time and credits

Actually microsoft windows 7 is a much better choice than linux or ubuntu because it is easier to navigate. tried the ubuntu one time tried linux one time reloaded windows 7 back and i dont want to even talk about apple much more exclusive and hard to navigate than all the others put together. soooooooo like i said if i win it will be windows 7

I disagree with that statement about linux, I have ZORIN OS 6.4 ULTIMATE 64BIT, and it well out does windows 7 or 8 in performance and flexabliliy and I can still run microsoft software on ZORIN with a 5x performance than on win 7 or win 8. I have run several mirosoft os and several linux os and ZORIN had the best over all performance and data handling with running the same software on all os that I checked and win 7 came 70% and win 8 at 65% as to ZORIN ranked 92% on all test that were done, the test range from data handling to graphics performance, video performance, and high-end gaming with overclocking ZORIN out ranked microsoft. I don't knock anyone for the they're chioce in OS, But I go for the best ZORIN.

Newgamer I was referring to linux and ubuntu and Ive used both to my dissatifaction because both are even harder to navigate than apple and sibce Ive never used zorin i cannot speak for it but as I stated windows 7 is much easier to navigate than the other 2 forementioned However I donot like the new version of explorer 11 because it wont even recognize adobe flash and maybe that is why you dislike windows 7 and 8 but try opera browser instead it is a much better browser for windows 7 than internet explorer 11

Yes I do use opera and firefox, have you tried firefox for your internet it's a bit better than explorer 11, I did find IE 11 to be slower than I would have liked it to be. who knows you might like firefox, thankyou!!

Thanks! Linux is a free and open source operating system. Ubuntu can be downloaded free. It can be run along side your present OS as well. There is more tinkering involved than with MS, but also more creativity and skill building too.
