They are actually starting to produce now.The june bearer variety just means they produce their crop mostly over a couple months time where as an ever bearer will produce for a longer time.The biggest difference I have seen between the two is the june bearer produce larger berries for a shorter time period compared to the ever bearer that produces smaller berries for a longer period. I have been told and have done it.....is to remove blooms the first year so plants will grow larger and multiply and make a much better crop the second year.
