Description

The listing, Olivin (Peridot) Mineral Specimen has ended.

Mineral collectors take note: Large portion of an Olivine (Peridot) volcanic bomb from Kilbourne Hole, New Mexico. This xenolith (chunk of the earths mantle (at least 25miles below the surface)) exploded from the ground about 200,000 years ago and is entirely comprised of Olivine as little crystals (to 3mm) compacted together. The color of the crystals are clear apple green to dark olive green(fayalite to forsterite end members), with some black pyroxene crystals. A thin basalt crust coats the specimen on one side. A beautiful example of what the earth is made of!

Size: (wedge shaped) Approx 2"L x1.5-2"w x 1.5" tall (bowl shaped) Coin for scale.

Shipping $3 (its a dense mineral). USA only.

Hey,
Is this rock brittle or solid and compact?

Thanks!

Original
Its fairly solid and compact, however if you rub on the crystals, they will come off one by one. Basically, if you try to get them off, they will come off.
