They thrive in full sun and well drained soil, prefer zones 5-9 where temps do not fall below -20 degrees.
Butterfly bush is a butterfly favorite. I have blue, pink and rainbow bushes and see many of them. Usually, they grow between 4 and 5 ft. Mine are taller than 6ft.
You can grow them by sowing their seeds in pots. Later, transfer them perminately in spring.
The seeds are tiny and hard to count so you will get way more than 12. They are freshly dried, so you will need to stratify them. Put the bag of seeds outside for 4 weeks for better germination.
Fill 4" pots with potting soil, drop one seed into each pot, pushing it down 1". Mist lightly. Place in area that receives bright, indirect sunlight while maintaining a temp of 75 degrees. Keep soil moist. Germination takes 20-30 days. Transplant outdoors in spring 4-6ft apart.
