The listing, RARE WW 2 Army 87th Div. 173rd Airborne Bgd. Sweet Heart Pin Signed & Original Card - Sky Soldiers has ended.
This set of two pins was made by H.H.P. Whittemore Co. in the 1940's in Attleboro, Mass (former jewelry capital of the USA). It was usually worn by a member of the family of the enlisted "Sky Soldier".
In excellent condition on original card, Wing & Dagger pin is stamped with WHITTEMORE & CO. and both pin stamped with PAT'D on the back.
It is Acid Test - Rhodium Plated and the original retail price of $3.00. In today's money that would figure out to be about $50.00 - without the consideration of rarity.
The 173rd Airborne Brigade a part of the 87th Army Division in World War 1. In World War 2 it was based in Vicenza, Italy. Although the Sky Soldiers did not face very much combact duty in World War 2, it was much involved in Vietman, Iraq and Afghanistan.
I am putting this beautiful two pin set up for auction, with the hope it will go to a person who has serviced or a family member of a person who serviced in the 173rd Airborne Division.
I have done a lot of research on this item. It is a part of America's history and is worth a great deal. It should be worn by a worthy Veteran or Veteran family member.
