Description
The listing, 4 Sago Palm Seeds has ended.
You are bidding on 4 Sago Palm Seeds.
Sago Palms (Cycas revoluta), one of the most primitive living seed plants, are very unusual and popular ornamentals. A rugged trunk, topped with whorled feathery leaves has lead to the common name "Sago Palm", however it is actually related to conifer and Ginko trees - all cone bearing plants which trace their origins back to the ancient flora of the early Mesozoic era. Often called "living fossils", Cycads have changed very little in the last 200 million years.
Questions & Comments
I researched these online and it says the female can have seeds that are not fertile because there is no male sago around to pollinate. Do you have both male and female to assure these seeds are fertile? I would love to bid on this but want to make sure first. Thanks!
Yes, we have 2 males that have their cone, and one HUGE female that puts off her "babies" every year :) We are constantly having to dig up her lil kids to relocate them or give them away, so these should most definitely be fertile. She's about to start dropping these, so if this auction goes over well, I may do another one with more.
I realize that your are selling seeds, so do they have any special instructions for planting? I heard that it takes 2-3 months for the seed's sprouts to be noticed, because they grow slowly. Is that correct?
how large do these get and can they go outside in tennessee? zone 7a here. better to start in a pot maybe? how do you tell the male from female ones? can you tell when they are young which sex they will be? thinkin of starting all 4 and giving my mom 2 if they can be "sexed", lol!
