Anything can be done if you try it, not to be a smart alleck, but, you would need little tiny tools to press in the teeny spring rods that hold each link, and I can't get the back off because I don't want to scratch the watch, I tried, but the screwdriver I have is not small enough to fit under the lid, I would assume it takes the standard watch battery, any drug store carries them, Hope I've helped in some way.
