Vitex Negundo, or Chaste tree, is a heat and drought tolerant plant that will provide pollen and nectar for honeybees all thru the Summer and into Autumn. They also will be a beautiful flowering small tree for you, producing many, many light blue flower spikes in the Summer till frost
They will spread out easily by seed, making an eventual grove if you care for one....Included in the pack is over 50 seeds. They are from near my apiary, so I know that they are fertile..Germination takes 14-18 days. Plant early indoors for early setout in the Spring. Large shrubs will reach 8-12 feet easily, with older trees reaching to 20 feet They cannot live outside in Winters above zone 5, and further north they will require potting to be able to be moved insde during cold snaps , but they do well in the heat and drought of Texas.
All you need to do is soak the seeds overnight and plant them shallow--no more than 1/4" deep--and water gently. They should sprout within two weeks. After that,just keep them moist for a while and gradually withhold self watering and let normal rainfall do the trick...Start traing early at about 1' in height to whatever shape you want the tree in..Left alone, they will grow to 20' , but you can go with multi-trunk pruning to make a denser bloom .
