These books have been read and have plenty of use left in them. There are no rips, tears or bends on the pages. Other than normal wear and tear from reading, the books are in great shape. If you want better pictures I will try and get them for you so you can better read the backs of them. They are excellent reading, sad in some parts, and hard to believe that some of the things that happened to the little boy happens in the world today.

I've only ever read A Child Called It when I was around 15 (I'm 30 in July this year). I cried almost constantly and felt my first rage and absolute hatred for another human being. How a mother could do that to her child, I will NEVER be able to comprehend. I've never been able to bring myself to read the others, afraid of the turmoil they might put me through as the first had.

The rest of the books are worth reading if you can ever bring yourself to read them.

This is what it is about.
Sister Mary Angela, the head of the school Georgie attends, tries to help Georgie by finding a place to plant the rosebush elsewhere. However, Georgie strongly believes that Mrs. Harper's garden is the rightful place for the rosebush to be planted in. On one night, Georgie stealthily sneaks out of the school building and takes the rosebush to Mrs. Harper's garden. There, he secretly plants it there and returns to his bed at school with a satisfied feeling. However, Mrs. Harper finds the rosebush planted in her own garden along with her prized lilies destroyed by Georgie while he was planting the rosebush. Georgie confronts Mrs. Harper, who threatens to burn the rosebush if she sees it in her garden again. His deep affection to the rosebush drives him to threaten back at Mrs. Harper, and he gets a nervous breakdown. During this breakdown, however, Mrs. Harper happens to see Georgie's accidentally uncovered back, with horrible bruises and other gruesome details. Mrs. Harper becomes very sympathe end, Georgie opens up to both himself and Mrs. Harper. Robin unfortunately drowns, causing Georgie to look back on Robin's last few months. After Robin passes, Georgie switches the location of his rose bush from the garden to Robin's grave. Robin drowns by going to feed the ducks without Georgie and the ducks pull him in the water face first. Sadly, Robin had died.

I have read all of Mr. Pelzer's biographies except the Privilege of Youth. Many have sad how sad they are and that is true. One wonders how could anyone treat a person, child or not like that. Sadly, it happens every day. Readers should look deeper into his story. Dave is a survivor. He has improved his situation mostly by his own determination. No matter how rough it got, he persevered. As adults, we tend to use our past and current situations as an excuse and crutch. Let Dave inspire you as you read his story. It also gives a glimpse of what you can look for and do to improve someone else's lot in life. Excellent books and I highly recommend them! Thank you laditiamat for offering these for auction.

I got my copies at Walmart they happened to have all 4 of the series. To think a little boy withstood that much torture just makes me thankful that my grandkids arent having to go through something like that. I couldnt fathom anyone having to endure such hatred from their own mother.
