I checked the original store ad. The ring is 18k gold plated over a zinc alloy. Gold doesn't tarnish, but eventually, plating can wear off. How quickly plating wears off depends on many variables such as how rough you are on your jewelry, the acidity of your skin, how thick the plating is, is your jewelry exposed to chemicals, etc. I hope that answers your question.
