13 "HEAVY" New Orleans Mardi Gras Doubloons - These are the ones made of brass, bronze, or some other heavy metal, none are silver. These are known as "heavys" because the other type of doubloons are aluminum. These are mostly from the carnival parades but some are from other things around New Orleans that in the Mardi Gras tradition give them out to promote their cause. Both sides are pictured. They are about 1.5" in diameter, but one is smaller than the rest at 1.25" in diameter. These are a very cool collection not only for their originality.... BUT A COUPLE OF THE PARADES REPRESENTED ON A COUPLE OF THE COINS ARE NO LONGER IN EXISTENCE.
