Sorry...today was a holiday and I had relatives over celebrating. They are new, the designs vary. There are actually more designs than what is shown here. They are almost completely flat. If you look really closely from the side, they are ever so slightly rounded from the edges. As far as the "painting" goes. they must be machine painted or printed and sealed. The designs are way to intricate and detailed to have been done by hand, and there are exact duplicates of same design. Hope this info helps!
