Description

The listing, MENORAH with Star of David on it - VERY OLD - Silver? Steel? - A great heirloom piece has ended.

I really do not know much of the history of this item. I know its quite old and has been in my attic for over 15 years now. We think it's about 80+ years old but theres no way at all to verify this at all. It's quite old and have been all over the world. Israel, Europe, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Germany, USA etc.

ITS VERY DIRTY, DUSTY, and just OLD... I am not going to clean it.... It's not because I'm lazy... OK... thats part of the reason :-) but its also because I don't want to ruin this anymore than it already has been from its storage and age.

I hope it gets enjoyed again. I think its Steel just by its weight but honestly do not have a clue. I was told its pure Silver - I highly doubt it is because of its pure weight and the way it has aged. If it was true it would be like $5,000 in silver. LOL

So Shalom to everyone and best of luck =-)

the 9 slots are for the candles... 8 for the 8 days of hanukkah. The middle or the highest candle is called the shamash which you use to light the candles. :-)

I come from a family of Holocaust Survivors. Many items came from my grandparents and extended family from around the world. I am the only one who pretty much said about 15 years ago that i would take anything that anyone in my family was throwing away. So 15 years ago I went to 7 states on a journey to save a whole lot of my families history. My father and I made it into a pretty interesting journey in our familys past, i learned a lot and have boxes and when i say boxes i mean BOXES of items. I took pictures of everything and cataloged many things. I tried to give most of the items to other members of my family but nobody wanted anything so in boxes and in the attic it went... (yes im cutting a long story short but this is the high level of it) so... 15 years later i have lots of items and im taking out some of the really nice things that i personally like, some are going to a few museums (especially the holocaust museum) and now to listing items on here... so this particular item i really dont know much about and who it came from... i do know it was from the trip 15 years ago and thats it.

kristina11 Hanukkah also known as the Festival of Lights is an eight-day Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple (the Second Temple) in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt of the 2nd century BCE. Hanukkah is observed for eight nights and days, starting on the 25th day of Kislev according to the Hebrew calendar, which may occur at any time from late November to late December in the Gregorian calendar.

thriste u said your grandpa had one i was wondering what exactly is it and where did it originate from , just curious thanks
May 9th, 2011 at 6:56:31 PM PDT by

u might want to write Thriste directly he might not see this. I wasnt sure how much details you wanted... so I will give it a shot myself. Its a menorah :-) Its one of the oldest symbols of jewish faith used for Hanukkah. We "THINK" it was purchased in Israel but not sure at all.... and Hopefully Thristie would know where it originated from.

I have like 20+ items on here and I have about 3 now on ebay... normally i have 25-35 on ebay so im trying to put as much on here to save on fees but the issue is theres nothing on here i really want so i have a ridiculous amount of credits and all i can use them for is to buy gift cards and they go for WAY too much money.
