Good question! I tried it on my phone and it doors work but you need to plug them into AC power for them to work. There is also an auxilary in port.

You have to have electrical power for them to make sound. - They have to be plugged into the electrical socket. So, not terribly portable like the other speakers I have up for auction that don't require any external power to work.
