Thank you., you are so right, sir. It says 14K on the clasp but the necklace itself is not solid gold. Just the clasp. I have purchased several pieces of jewelry on here that are supposed to be solid sterling silver too, and they were not. The clasps might be but not the rest. Can you tell me, please sir, if sterling silver sticks to magnets or do they not? Anyway, thank you for your information.
well I have gotten some items off of listia and the seller may sam gold plated but when I get the item and look at it threw my jeweler"s loup it say's 10 kt or 14k or 18 k and if your a jeweler you would ask them to find out if it's real when I get the items I use BRASS O on them that tells if there real or not if it dose not change colors then it's real if it turns a different color then u know just thought this may help great auction F&W
Thank you, Robert! I was also taking long, hard look at this picture, as it looked like a Rose Hold had been dipped over SS. I too have been ripped off on one '14K Gold' set, and several Sterling Silver pieces.
cyn, that is why I didn't say that it was solid gold. It only says 14K on the clasp and I have no idea about the necklace itself only that it is gold in color. Anyway, thank you for your comment. I also have been ripped off on sterling silver here on Listia.
Rose Marie, your comment was actually worded well, and very correctly, but you may want to add a 'Disclaimer', so you don't end up with an unhappy, dispute filing, 'Buyer'. It seems people on Listia can't read the description of an item past 14K or just don't read it all, they just scan it; but not past the 14K part. I have gotten 4 pieces that were excellent, and real 14K Gold; 3 not so much.
Sterling Silver is where I have lost the most. A seller on here on Listia, that I bought a beautiful set from, was nice enough to email me a recipe for an inexpensive silver cleaner. And something that I'm not sure she's aware of, but I found that this same recipe can also tell if the jewelry being cleaned is Real Sterling Silver. If you would like it, let me know, especially if you're getting Sterling Silver from Listia.
Rosemarie.... Just to answer your previous question above... No precious metals... Gold, Sterling Silver, or Platinum should stick to a magnet. When testing with a magnet it is common for the magnet to pull to the clasp of say a necklace or bracelet... that is fine.... it is doing that because your lobster claw and spring ring clasps contain a spring inside that attracts the magnet... but the chain or bracelet itself should not stick or pull to the magnet. Please also keep in mind that just because an item does not stick..... does not guarantee that it is gold... it simply contains alloys that are not magnetic. Hope that helps.. :)
