White Lilac Bush
Mix these beautiful lilacs with the bold blooms from other spring flowering shrubs like forsythia, red quince, purple lilacs, and weigelas. They make a wonderful show for several weeks in spring and early summer. The White Lilac is well-known and loved by gardeners all over the world for its beauty and fragrance; one of the most powerful fragrances emitted by a plant. It has gorgeous bell-shaped white flowers amid the dark-green heart-shaped leaves.
These hardy lilac shrubs can withstand severely cold winters (even -35 degrees C). Lilacs prefer a rich well drained soil. Although they will grow in light shade, they will develop a more dense plant habit and flower much better when grown in full sun. Another advantage, lilacs are unaffected by most pests and disease. Lilacs are very easy to grow and maintenance free.
How tall is the starts you will be sending? Do you wrap the root w/wet towel or newspaper to keep the root moist during transportation at all? Thank you
The starts that I will be digging up are usually 1' to 2' tall. I will take off all but the top 4 or 5 leaves to lessen shock, and wrap the roots with wet newspaper or paper towels, depending what I have on hand, then tie a Walmart bag over that to keep moisture in. If you can't put them where you want them right away, heel them in, then try to move them to permanent spot before it gets really hot. Mulch around bush but leave 3" or 4" empty around base of bush to prevent rot and bug damage. Mulching keeps roots cool, moisture in, and weeds from growing. Lilac bushes do best in full sun.
