Description
The listing, Old fashioned purple lilac bush has ended.
This old-fashioned lilac has been scenting yards (and providing big bouquets) for generations. In late spring, this 6-10 feet tall shrub bursts into bloom with branches filled with fragrant purple spires. Plant multiples to create a hedge. Extremely hardy, this lilac also thrives in all types of soil. Plant in full sun for best show.
The starts that I will be digging up are usually 1' to 2' tall. I will take off all but the top 4 or 5 leaves to lessen shock, and wrap the roots with wet newspaper or paper towels, depending what I have on hand, then tie a Walmart bag over that to keep moisture in. If you can't put them where you want them right away, heel them in, then try to move them to permanent spot before it gets really hot. Mulch around bush but leave 3" or 4" empty around base of bush to prevent rot and bug damage. Mulching keeps roots cool, moisture in, and weeds from growing. Lilac bushes do best in full sun.
We live at my husbands home place. There was a lilac bush here from a looong time ago. We had house work down and the jerks dug it up and hauled it off. I hope I can win these.
