If you are collecting your own seeds, pick the pods when they are dark brown or black and are beginning to split open. Allow the pods to dry, then crush them to remove the seeds. Only use seeds that do not have holes in them. The holes come from the larvae of the yucca moth, which use them for food. The moths are essential for pollination of yucca.

Rub the seeds gently with sandpaper to break the seed coating. Plant the seeds in well-drained potting soil at a depth of one or two seed lengths. Put the pot in a warm, sunny location and keep the soil moist until seedlings appear, usually in one or two weeks.

If you want to move your yucca outdoors, find a sunny and dry site with sandy or well-drained soil. Feed the plant once a year with compost, bone meal and dried manure. You should not have to water yucca often, if at all.
