Well, this is a satellite radio antenna, so it will get the signal from the satellites in the sky. But it also picks up signals from ground repeaters and those are mostly used in urban areas where buildings might interrupt the signal. I had one installed on the side of my bedroom window. It did not pick the satellite signal that well but the ground signal was great. I always had a good signal..

so it wont pick up DTV signals? will it pick up for a scanner?

Nope. this antenna is only to be used for Sirius radios..
