If I had set this up as shipping for 'exact cost'; yes I could - but the problem is the cost of FREE shipping. This will not go in a normal 44¢ envelope, it would be too thick, even before the bubble wrap. So, it needs packaging that increases what the post office charges to ship - just for me to GIVE it away.
I start the bidding at 100 credits, mostly, to cover the shipping cost because so many people on listia, not only want whatever-it-is for free, but they want you to pay the cost of delivering it to them, or they won't even look at the item.
As a reply equal to such a request, I could say that: if you buy a plane ticket that gets you within walking distance of my house, I'll just give it to you when we meet -- no credits or mailing cost involved --at all!
I don't know where you live, but how much do you think it would cost to get to western Massachusetts to pick this up?
Also, I don't understand where the 10¢ per credit that listia charges to buy them is at all accurate -- it seems more like .01¢ from what I'm seeing (or else people are paying $70 dollars for a $3 baseball card). Okay -- end of rant. But, tell me why I should accept your offer and perhaps I'll lower the beginning bid. Convince me and I will.

Just wanted to say I loved your rant!!! And agree 100%! I also think we should be able to start our min bid at up to 500, because there are some things I would only offer free ship if it sold for like 200-300 or more, so we should be able to start it there!! Like this item, because of what it's going to cost you to ship it, because it's so thick & usps just raised the rates for thick 'packages' where the min is now $1.71 (which is insane), you should be able to start this at like 200-250 at the very least! And you're also right on the credit value, listia's price to purchase credits is nowhere near close to what item's real values are... but they don't claim that either. lol Anyway loved your response to a ridiculous question!!! :-D
