Update: I tried to chip or scratch the finish and it is tough as nails. Don't think there would be a problem. : )

Coat the painted portion with a clear sealer formulated for the outdoors and it should be fine (they come in matte as well as gloss). I've only had it hanging indoors, so I can't vouch for the finish. But usually when they paint metal, don't they use an epoxy? Still, to be safe, I'd coat it Robin.

Oh you should check out your family history, moon. My daughter has been researching for a year and found ties to the Royals in Britain and France through my father's line. I got goosebumps. Fascinating stuff. A lot of tragedy there. To think that all I've read has been about my ancestors!
