Description

The listing, Ancient Roman Coin - THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE EVER - Licinius I AE Follis c. 313-315AD has ended.

This is a very special CHRISTIAN coin from the early Roman Empire. I want this to go to a Christian who will appreciate its historical value, and not just the intrinsicity of the almighty dollar. And yes, it's valuable.

Licinius' full name: variations as Iovius Licinius or Licinianus Licinius appear on inscriptions.
Licinius I (Latin: Gaius Valerius Licinianus Licinius Augustus c. 263 – 325), was Roman Emperor from 308 to 324. Co-author of the Edict of Milan that granted official toleration to Christians in the Roman Empire, for the majority of his reign he was the rival of Constantine I. He was finally defeated at the Battle of Adrianople, before being executed on the orders of Constantine I. In other words, he was THE man, other than Jesus Christ, to allow Christians to live peacefully and prosper.

Thank you. As the bible says, God can complete forgiveness in a single moment, just as he did with the thief hanging from the cross next to Jesus. All he had to do was ask for absolution, and it was done.
When I prayed for mine, it was like a water faucet had been turned on, and the valve had been broken, unable to shut off.

Shalom! What a great auction! I imagine this will go very high in bids, as it should! This would be an absolute wonderful item/historic artifact to own! I know I am watching.
As a born again Christian myself (have been saved for over 19 yrs) I too would really love to have this. I appreciate the history behind this.
Praise Jesus for all my Christian brothers & sisters on here! What a blessing to see others who love the Lord! =^.^=

I can't wait to see the crosses. I collect the old ones. So I will probably be bidding. I have a friend who finds them all over Europe. I can't bring myself to put them on here. I may get rid of some of my other ancients but not them. lol.

I'm hoping to list them Wednesday, but I've sent 4 emails to Listia over the past 10 days regarding their defective address system that must be used by Tuesday, and no response. I just removed the Mite's, and will probably go back to eBay with customer support. This is a terrible business model.

I tried hiding this comment, but it keeps coming back, lol.
I think he's trying to confuse my bidders with all the inferior coins on this link, so heres the coin I'm giving, but mines in better shape. It's from the same link.

Interesting. According to your link, and the shabby shape of those coins, I could have sold it on ebay for $137.00 starting bid. I now wish I had not listed it, lol. But advertising your eBay store on my listing isn't permitted by Listia.

I posted the wrong link up there. it's slightly different. Mine is Jupiter holding Victory rather than genius with the head of Serapis.

Since most don't know this. the pic is of the actual coin, but not of actual size (enlarged to show detail). Roman coins were not huge like that. This coin is about the size of a nickel, but since another bidder may have been upset with the size of another coin not being the size of a dinner plate, I guess I need to disclose that you can't hang it on your wall to view from the couch, lol.

Front shows Licinius Head to the right. Back shows Jupiter facing left holding victory on a globe in his right hand and a sceptre in his left hand. The weight is 2.9g and diameter is 20mm.

Wednesday is going to be an exciting day for Listier's. I will list one of the coptic Silver crosses, and one Widow's Mite, so check back then.
I thought it would be fun to take two of the Mite's, and throw them into the treasury (tithing basket) at church next Sunday, lol.

I know the feeling. Forgiveness is an amazing thing. It has been hard for me to hold a grudge against anyone since I was saved... if God can forgive me of my sins who am I to begrudge anyone of what they have done.

I will definitely be watching for more auctions from you! I am sure your church would love having them what a great piece of history! And it would be fun for them to be able to show people those mites when they teach on the widow who gave her last two mites.

I just hope they know what they are. new western society, even churches normally don't have a clue when it comes to ancient history. And I'm new to the Lutheran denomination, but they do preach the teachings of Christ, rather than how the Pope is infalliable, but the bible is. I heard that my whole life as Roman Catholic at St. Lukes. But...that was a way better life than Pagan with Jessica. (No offense to Pagan's, since I ate, partied, and was taken care of by you for the past ten years).

haha.
I wish I could change my screen name, lol. This name was given to me in 2002 and it stuck with me, but now I guess I can't say I'm 3800 years old. Just mortal old (wow, where did the time go? One day, I woke up, and someone told me I was 38; I said, no, that can't be right, but it was, lmao).
Helen's mother was name Leda, btw. but what most people don't know, is that her biological father was Zeus, and adopted by Tyndareus. I always think of the story when I hear the Brad Paisley(?) song "Half the dad he didn't have to be".

Wow, a lot of history here. When I did my ancestry I had a lot of Romans including Marc Antony. I love Roman history. Would love to get this coin. I am a Christian and it would be nice to have. Will watch as it gets closer to time. Thanks for all your info. At first I didn't recognize your picture. lol.

I changed my pic because the events of this morn, midnight until 0200, called on it. But fittingly, I received my wings in that time, lol.
My computer was destroyed last night, but I have a new one overnight from Amazon. listing from my cell phone is difficult, so it'll resume shortly.

Great coin & condition, but you have to know that there is no religion in collectors world.
May 28th, 2011 at 9:59:41 AM PDT by

I don't really care who wins it, but as far as religion goes, this coin had an important push for Christians during Licinius' and Constantine's rule and the Edict of Milan..that is, until Licinius went nuts and turned on them.

If I listed a crossbow, would it be removed? It came from a toy store but has arrows that can go half way through a phone book. Rules say no firearms or knives, but doesn't say no crossbows, lol.

Well, thanks. But I already know it's genuine, and in better shape than any other Licinius I have. I appreciate it though.
Why don't you come back Wednesday and grade my Judean Widow's Mite's and Coptic crosses. I don't know a thing about those.
May 28th, 2011 at 11:02:37 PM PDT by
Original
The crosses are solid silver Coptic (Egyptian) c. 1822-1855. they're not as old as my other auctions, but still worth having. if they didn't have bad memories attached, I would keep them. The Mite's are c. 137-67BC and circ. 50BC-50AD. I think Jesus bought a Gyro with them once, lol.
They'll be in my store if i don't get this problem solved by then, so still available. Just click the promo box and enter 1111333-777, so it'll be free. But not until Wednesday.

Keep me informed as to these items. I'm very interested. I also sell on ebay, have for 10 years now and have 100% feedback. I just like the idea of this site. And it's getting harder to sell on ebay now than ever.
May 29th, 2011 at 8:19:51 AM PDT by

I agree with you. I've been selling on eBay for almost 15 years, but the fees and absurd rules are getting out of hand. I paid $1,400.00 in final value fees (eBay gets nearly 10% and Paypal gets nearly 10%) on the last piece I sold on there, so now I use various Numismatic forums.

The stored address system is a bug in the Google API, but if you message the proper one to Rosie through tickets, then she will update it (if you're having a problem).

You might try Etsy. Fees are cheaper - like 20cents to list for 3 months. They don't charge much for sold either. You might check into. It's slow but there is no bidding, you set your own price. I've been on there about a year and sold several items. I'm a basket maker and it's hard to sell those baskets anywhere but a gallery and these days handmade just doesn't bring the price. Every now and then I sell my vintage items, which keeps me listed, and once a year I sell a basket. lol

what's your name on ebay, so I can find you there. Mine is shatomabargains.. I used to sell my handmade baskets and gourds on there, but no more.

I probably won't be selling on eBay much, if at all, but will be putting everything in my store after i catalogue it all (maybe two months). I'm still a little sore over an $1800.00 Mortarium that auctioned for $12.00 (the free shipping and insurance cost $37.00 and eBay+paypal got 20% off the top) lol.
A neighbor also just opened an antiques shoppe in town, so I may throw her some startifacts.

I'm planning on listing the biblical Judean coins tomorrow at exactly 3:33 in the afternoon, but if I can't get away from work in time, I will list them at exactly 3:33 Thursday morning. That time has a particular significance regarding Christ. If anyone knows what it is; awesome.

Your biblical and historical, knowledge & wisdom fascinates me. I 've reread your comments yet and keep coming back. Hoping to be able to bid but, where did you learn all this? My brother I thought was knowledgeable about earlier yrs but you are so deep! So, you were once Catholic and now Lutheran? Anyway, I love everything to do with Jesus Christ, and Christians. This is the greatest auction I've seen on Listia. I would love to read an early Bible. I'm your fan and hope you the best, will be watching and following your comments. I hope all Good Luck

Well, thank you for your appreciation. I learned the hard way, back in the beginning of time c. 1983, before Google with these portable blogs we called books. Even in my current state of geriatrics passing my half-life by nearly a quarter-score, I have yet to need glasses. I do, however, fear that prolonged use of a devils box will make it inevitable, so I try and shy from it as much as possible.
Thank you for your wishes of fortuna, and may gezus smile upon you.
