Description

The listing, 1741 Mystery Coin - Unknown Origin has ended.

This coin is a mystery to me and, apparently, many others. I googled "1741 bronze coin ship crown" because they are the pictures on the front and back of coin. There are a few out there found all over the east coast. There is a lightweight similar coin that was found in a Barnes and Noble game, but some of these coins are heavier. I have been on a lot of treasure hunter sites and metal detecting sites and the consensus is pretty much the same. No one knows!

This is cool, whatever it is. Can you make out the letters at the bottom of the head? Or to the left of the head? It could be a commemorative token of something that happened in 1741...

Some possibilities of commemoration in 1741: Alaska discovered by Danish explorer Vitus Bering (but why would he be wearing a crown?), and Admiral Chaloner Ogle of England attacked Columbia. The ship fits these two events, but what about the crown? Interesting question....
