Absolutely, that's what fish do! I wouldn't like them if my grandchildren could not put them in water or swim with them!

Great question and helpful to me with future lists!
These robots come with 2 small button batteries.
They are safe but still recommended for children ages 3 yrs. old and up.
It is a safety precaution only! I watch when my grands play with them. They are less then 3yrs. of age. You know the drill....lol
