James E. Fraser, the famous mint engraver created the Indian Head-Buffalo Nickel design. His initial "F" is found in very small print beneath the date. Although US Nickel coins are the color of the metal nickel, they are made of a melted mixture containing 75% copper and only 25% nickel. Weight is 5 grams. Diameter is 21.2 millimeters.
Old Indian Head - Buffalo Nickels were minted from the years 1913 to 1938, with some years having no mintage at all. The last year of the old style Buffalo nickle was in 1938. Mid-year in 1938 the Jefferson Nickel was issued.
