Also, I'm trying to get a flat/panel screen monitor (only if you personal pickup), its an older model but works, however I cannot guarantee as I'm waiting for a family member to sent it, so I'll do my best.

You will receive an OFFICIAL Dell Dimension 8200 Desktop Computer. I'm including the following items - Desktop computer, Windows XP Pro 2002 software(Word, Access, Powerpoint, Outlook, Excel, Internet Explorer), 2 wires and manuals.

The computer belonged to my dad, and he is the original owner. The computer has been used for about 6 to 7 years. It still works and fully funcational. My dad recently got everything new, so I'm selling this for him. He was still using the computer, up till about end of Dec. 2010. He had this computer connected to a internet cable service(not included) and it worked just fine. We cleaned the computer using a DOD wiping software. It wiped the computer, completely clean and I had my dad reinstall operating system and windows software. You can add more software to the computer as you wish, but the basics were re-installed. Of course, buyer will have to update the software and the drivers/utilties, however, it will only update if you have an internet connection. If you don't have an internet connection, then most people can use this as a basic computer to do general tasks.

Linux is an open source Operating System not a program, and just so you know I use Windows 7, Debian, Windows Mobile, FreeBSD, and Mac, thanks. I do think before I type, control panels are NOT programs, they are administrative panels in the windows system folder they do not get "installed" to the program files. IE is not a panel it is a program and on a base install will NOT show up in the Add/Remove programs section, all originally programs that were a part of the base OS do not show up here unless you check the box that shows "show all updates" which this is clearly not. I was merely correcting you as you were the one who originally stated this was not correct info and for users to "be careful" about bidding on this. Yes I am a computer consultant, and I posted because the auctioneer was concerned about your post and wanted me to reply. SO maybe you should get your act together and not make your own self look like an ass before posting in such a bitter manner. Thanks, happy bidding.

@JWulfe well woohoo big and mighty, but before you lash out and say i'm "talking out my ass" look what you said. indeed "add/remove programs" is in the control panel. But this is not the place to do this. "We" are not computer geeks like you I guess. Most of us rely on "Windows" or "Mac" to get online and don't go for on open source program such as Linux. Also as you should know before typing all that crap. once you remove a program such as IE or any other program from the cpanel then it also deletes the program in C:\Program Files\ SO really you should think about it before you type. You just make yourself look like an ass.

But I have let her know some info and YES everyone this computer is good. It may be missing programs, but one of the discs there is the XP install disc so you can reformat it if you choose to have it back the way it was when it was bought. Or if you have the knowledge you can put whatever system you want on it.

Good luck Jenstad and hope you get a lot of credits. whoever gets this will indeed get a good machine or at least the bones to create a great machine. Take care.

Yet another thing i think i should mention, that is also NOT the windows control panel in those pics, pic number 6 being in question. That is the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS panel which can be found in the windows control panel. So please be careful to pay more attention to what you are looking at. Secondly I also had this brought to my attention even with all of this you cant assume that the bidder wont just even completely wipe this anyways and install Linux. Reguardless of its current state this is an awesome deal. Just because you do not like the software setup does not mean it can not be altered to your preferences.

PS: Internet Explorer is offered as one of the Windows Updates btw if you are that worrried that it does not have IE. Which TBH i believe it does have as even on a default minimal install IE 4 is usaly placed on there somewhere. Under Windows XP it would be located in C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\

OK first of all @ ClackamasGirl you are wrong you do not need .net to run windows, that is offered as a free update through Microsoft and downloaded at the users discretion. Yes a lot of software uses .net framework but it is not necessary to run the OS. Secondly IE is a giant ball of crap, i have removed it from every computer i have ever used. Look who is still on the internet. Ever heard of Firefox, Opera, or maybe even Chrome. Microsoft Office BTW does connect to the internet, it is call Outlook it does e-mail, look it up. Windows Update does NOT need IE to operate, it is independent and will operate on its own and update your computer without the need of a browser. Please refrain from talking out of your ass thanks. Bid away everyone this is a safe deal, and a even better one if you are local.

This has been you friendly neighborhood flyby to correct some user error on this thread, thank you have a nice day.

Just an FYI before someone asks about this. They are not talking about internal wiring such as IDE cables and such needed to make the computer run. They are talking about external cables such as a RJ45 network cable for routers and modems, i would suppose since they mentioned a modem, and whatever other external cables they have with it.
May 31st, 2011 at 8:38:32 PM PDT by

Yes, that is correct. I meant external wiring's. Sorry, for confusion.

actually when they re install to factory setting it does remove everything from the start menu and it doesnt mean anything because unless the boxes were checked under the control panel to install those options they dont automatically show once you have re installed., its not hard to go to the start the control panel and then programs then click windows options and just click everything you want to add on from the factory settings.(for the person that said items missing from start menu)not everything shows up you have to manually go in there if you want to see everything, most people think you cannot get online without IE explorer but yes you can,in most factory re sets you will see the connect to internet option where it gives the option to connect through a variety of sources and you can download any array of web browsers not just IE

Yes, you should have no problems integrating any external accessories to this from any manufacturer as long as you have the drivers for it. That is a OS issue not a hardware one. However internally is another story, you may want to do some research on what is compatible with this as Dell is very picky about what kind of RAM and other upgradeable parts it uses. Dell only likes Dell when it comes to upgrading.them.

Also for anyone who is worried about the OS not being complete, there is always open source Ubuntu OS for a free download and would probably work great for these older systems, it is compatible with windows programs and office and is very stable and secure as in it needs no virus software, if you just want to try it out there is a live cd option which allows you to run it in the ram without touching your hard drive, hopefully this helps as well, just google ubuntu free download, or check some of the vids on youtube, great auction hope you do well!

I heavily endorse that suggestion as well. Ubuntu is the Windows 7 of Linux distros. This is the perfect Linux distro for newbies to Linux as well as advanced users. However being the Windows 7 of Linux it can be a tad bit hardware demanding. So if it does not work on this machine there is no need to worry there are thousands of Linux distros to choose from. Like Debian which is what Ubuntu is based off of.

I have this same computer and all I did to get internet was plug it into my router and for wireless I bought a usb adapter--took all of 2 minutes to have wireless. The adapter was $5.00. I did not need any kind of boost and most people would not either. I imagine it is because of where you are located, not sure. Great computer--excellent Dell and was way over $1000 when new. You can still get drivers. The processor has an awesome green fan cover and it opens up easily by pushing in on each side--no removing panels--just open it and add more ram--also very inexpensive. Bid with confidence--you will be pleasantly surprised!

Just another NOTE: I realize all I have is the microsoft office installed. As of right now, you can not connect to the internet with the current program installed. As I stated above you may need to update and install additional programs in order for you to connect to the internet. I TRIED TO BE AS HONEST AS POSSIBLE! Remember, I'm not an IT or computer expert.

HERE IS A LIST OF ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE THAT COMES WITH THE DELL COMPUTER: the drivers and utilities cd, the operating system cd, back up software cd for dell computer, the microsoft xp 2002 software, a sound blaster live! software cd, microsoft intellitype pro 5.2 software installation cd, powerDVD software for maximizing the power of dvd, roxio CD creator 5.1 basic. I have not installed any of these software programs as I leave up to the final bidder. Please understand, I'm trying to be as honest as possible in my description.

YES, you can surf the internet, but you may need to download or burn onto a CD additional software from microsoft's website in order to surf the web. I cannot STRESS this enough times, that you are purchasing the item 'AS-IS'. This computer is for FREE with FREE shipping. I hope that my positive feedback track means something on this site.

If you are a computer expert, please don't present a problem. Just help me to a resolution. Thank you.

However, once you have all the right programs installed then you will be able to surf the internet. As I stated my dad, used this computer until Dec. of 2010. We used cable connection but other connections will work. Again, you may need additional programs which can be found on microsoft's website. Good luck bidding.

WOW i was looking at your photos. Why has all the Microsoft programs been deleted from the control panel? There are some vital programs that are needed to have it run and they are gone. for example the Microsoft .net framework. That is included in ever windows based computer and wont run without it. Without the IE that original Internet Explorer you can't even get on the web to download anything else let alone get Windows updates.

So for anyone knows nothing about computers I would be careful. As it is now with 1 program installed (Microsoft Office) It is incapable of getting online.
May 29th, 2011 at 11:59:05 AM PDT by
Original
I tried to be as honest as possible. There is always a way to install more programs. Nothing is impossible. You can get online, as I stated in my description you will need to update or add more software to the computer. I do have all original installation discs, and manuals. Thank you for your expertise.

One final note: Just like any older computers or software, there is a possibility that dell and windows will not provide PATCH updates for any future releases of software. The computer still functions, but I will not be held responsible for any software or updates that you might need in the future. Sorry, had be be clear on this point. Once again, you are purchasing this item 'AS-IS'. NO returns & NO exchanges.

SOME OTHER SPECIFICS:

As you can see in the images below the computer is fully functional and operational. At the time my dad purchased the computer it cost him over $1000(AGAIN - NO MONITOR INCLUDED, I'm showing you that the desktop functions. You can bid on the monitor in another auction). Basically, this was top of the line computer from dell many years ago.

I don't know all specs as I'm not an IT guru or Computer expert. Buyers are encouraged to look-up the information online and due their own research.

(just an example: my dad had a ton of software on this computer. For example, graphics and multimedia & other software-Not included, but just giving you an idea of the stuff that can be put on this computer).

SOME BASIC DETAILS:

-Dell Dimension Desktop 8200 Computer
-Pentium 4 processor at 2.0 GHz
-512 MB PC800 RDRAM
-Video ready option w/o monitor
-64MB NVIDIA GeForce2 MX Graphics Card with TV-Out
-80GB 7200 RPM Ultra ATA Hard Drive
-Uses Windows XP operating system
-3.5" Floppy Drive
-10/100 PCI Fast Ethernet NIC Factory Installed
-V.90/56K Telephone Modem for Windows
-8X/4X/32X CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive
-SB Live! Digital Sound Card
-1 USB connection
-Internet ready for cable installation and we also used this computer on a wi-fi connection. Yes, you can use for wireless, but we found that you will need an antenna to boost the signal of the wi-fi in the pc computer. But, again you will need an internet service in order to use(not included).

I couldn't possibly list all specific details about this computer. But, you can get more information on the dell homepage about this computer:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim8200
(the link is only for informational purposes only).

MINOR ISSUES WITH THIS COMPUTER?:

NO MONITOR INCLUDED. Sorry, but there is NO monitor included in this auction(unless you personal pickup). I only put up the images of the screen to show you that the desktop is fully functional.

Wiring's -
My dad has 2 wirings, but I have no idea if the buyer will need to purchase more wirings. You will only get the wirings that belong to the desktop itself. Buyer might need to buy extra wirings at their own cost.

Updates for computer -
Not really an issue, but making a note. If you have a connection to the internet its best to update the computer's software, drivers and other utilities. Because I used the wiping software, then of course the computer was set to original factory settings. Worst case scenario you have to update the software online and it might take you awhile. Again, no internet service included. Or use the computer for general tasks if no internet connection.

Scratches -
Well this is a USED computer. I don't have time to check every single scratch under a microscope. So please note, you might see scratches here and there from use on the outer shelling.

Makes/Models -
Not really a HUGE issue, but just in case note to buyer. I don't know the specific numbers or makes/models of the HP keyboard or Dell mouse.

Registration/Customer Support/Service/Warranty -
Another note to buyer - The computer is an older model so of course my dad registered the computer under his name and address. As well as the computer software is registered under his name. However, once the computer is sold, 'AS-IS' the buyer will have NO customer support, NO service, NO warranty from dell or no service/no support from windows software due to the computer being registered in someone else's name. However, once the buyer purchases the computer, OF COURSE, the computer is yours to keep and is transferred to new owner. But again, you get no customer support, no warranty, and no service.

(SORRY, ONLY FOR PERSONAL PICKUP) I wrote this in part of the description:
Makes/Models -
