If you have to ask, odds are that you're too privileged to understand. Most food pantries are closed now and you must wait hours and days to get the one bag of food you get for a family of 4. Groceries costs increased while making food packages smaller. If not for coupons I'd never be able to feed my family.
And there's the best part...the times the grocery store pays ME to take the food. (If coupons equal more than your bill most places (not kennies or Walmart, etc, but all compassionate companies that respect they're own policies do)
It usually pays me about $14 to buy 2 carts of food for my family. If I couldn't buy all of my food for for free I couldn't afford the gas to get there.
Try this experience...do not eat anything other that the canned ground beef the government cans and designated for those 300% below the poverty label(feeding this food the people that have money is illegal as it leads to a horrible sickness and dehydration. And drink only tap water, the kind the city posts warnings every month because it is not safe for consumption, cooking or baking or bathing.
On your 4 the day of being dehydrated and hungry, a dumpster looks temp thing...a drink coupon is even better.
