The Cenotaph
In the rear part of the southern Cenotaph for the 1347 deceased Emperor Louis is placed Bayern. It is a memorial monument, completed in 1622 by Hans Krumper.
Inside the durchfensterten marble housing the important late Gothic memory board is for Emperor Louis from the late 15th century, whose masterpiece was attributed not obvious until today. However, it is not a real grave.
The bronze figures of pomp housing show Duke William IV (1508-50) on the west side and Albrecht V (1550-79) on the east side. The four kneeling flag bearers were intended for a grave monument of Duke Wilhelm V in St. Michael's Church, which was not built.
The cenotaph was originally at a central location, in the choir of the Church of Our Lady and was transferred several times. It is intended to indicate the Kaiserwürdigkeit the Wittelsbach family and their deeds for the Catholic faith.
