Description

The listing, Giant Elephant Ear Plants (x2) has ended.

You are bidding on 2 (two) LIVE corms of the Giant Elephant Ears or Taro Plants.
Elephant ears (Colocasia esculenta) are tropical plants with huge leaves that do resemble an elephant's ears. Leaves may be 2 to 3 feet long and 1 to 2 feet wide on 3-foot tall stems. They grow from corms, not true bulbs. A corm is a swollen underground stem base where the plant stores food. The corms are taro, an important food crop in many areas of the world. The starchy taro is used in Hawaiian poi and many Asian dishes. In colder climates north of Zone 8, elephant ear corms are treated as annuals. The corms must be dug up in the fall and stored in a cool place over the winter, as frost or freezing will kill the plant.

I know mine will grow for you. You will need to cover in the winter or dig it up. Also they love water, these are growing like crazy in our private lake, besides growing and spreading around the outside of my house. I have a sand/clay mix here. Mine come back bigger each year and right now they are 9 foot tall. You will know how to plant as they will have the green tops sticking out of the corm. These will be "Super Fresh", I will dig them for you as soon as the auction is over. :o)

I planted mine in a pot and in the winter months I store it in the basement pot and all.
When it warms up I take it back outside.
I live in Iowa where the winters get very very cold.
I got tried of digging mine up each year so putting it in a pot works.
