Shiso – Jeok Ssam Ip Variety
Shiso, also called Perilla, is a very popular herb in Japan and many other Asian countries. Young leaves and flowering shoots are used for cooking and pickling because of their aromatic flavor. The plant grows best under full sun or partially shading in mild climates. The plant has tender, flat and soft textured leaves that are very popular for using in Sushi. The average height of the plant is about 2 feet.
This unique herb is very popular for using in salad mixes, plate garnishes or sushi wraps. Plants are vigorous and leaves can be harvested at any growing stage.
This Vietnamese variety has smaller leaves and a strong, aromatic flavor. The topside of the leaf is deep green and the underside deep red-purple. Also grown as an ornamental accent in the garden. Traditionally cooked with seafood, making it particularly good for sushi.
