Description

The listing, CLASSIC FISHER PRICE LITTLE PEOPLE DOG - no longer made has ended.

This little guy should never have been relegated to antiques, but he is. In the 1990's Fisher Price changed their classic line of "Little People" to obese lower quality plastic figures, maybe a reflection of today's body types, but not cute or even easier for children to hold.

This little doggy is all plastic, fits in the classic (pre 1990's) line of Little People toy furniture, and was probably produced in the 1980's.

Please bid only if you'll cherish him, I put him up here to share something precious.

Becky ~ I would not ship to Canada either... eBay announcements just had an email June 15th about mail not being delivered in Canada (aside from the cost and forms). "Canada Post Suspends Operations" http://announcements.ebay.com/2011/06/canada-post-suspends-operations/

Thank you. That was my other concern but I liked the "he doesn't speak Canadian" excuse better. : )

I love that he's the same size as the Little People and can drive their little cars. I don't know if he drives well...

Too cute I remember playing with them back in the day. Thanks for sharing.

My pleasure. I love that people besides me think he's cool.

Yes Cassi, when they redo them, they come out worse it seems. Like the new Littlest Pet Shop and Polly Pockets. Luckily my daughter has hers still, but she has boys so we'll be getting rid of some of this stuff she saved eventually. I enjoy buying toys that she had as a baby/toddler. I bought the same portacrib she used to use as a playpen, the same Tupperware shape ball and animals, the same crib busy box, the same chime ball (but in a different color), the same Sesame Street Roadway (and my daughter bought them a Sesame Street train like she used to have). And some stuff she had saved, like the Little People. It is fun to watch them playing with the same things, from back when toys were toys, not blue toys and pink/purple toys. I hated when the twins were babies and there were some things you want 2 of, like the soothing seahorse - why do they only make blue and pink? You think they'd make a 3rd color - yellow or green, sometimes, so we don't have to buy two blue ones. Thanks for offering this dog. Do you have others you'll be listing later?

That does sound fun, watching the toys back in action. It's possible I'll list another Fisher Price guy but no immediate plans. I do like getting them out there though, their cuteness should be enjoyed.

I'm watching, by the way (if I can afford it when it ends). You can never have too many dogs, lol. We love the older Little People.

Actually, I verge on being a hoarder. I once saw what looked like an army of little Fisher Price dogs on eBay. I wish I bought them. I'm trying to spread the wealth though. I love when people put "treaures" on Listia and this is the closest to treasure I have more than 1 of.

Many people buy these as collectibles, not for children to play with. But any parent who buys and older toy intending for a child to play with it should exercise common sense (supervise smaller toys, make sure plastic has not deteriorated, find out if there is a lead problem, etc.). I would have no problem with my grandsons playing with these older Little People in another year or two (especially ours since they were well taken care of, not exposed to heat, etc.).

Ours have held up perfectly as well. The good quality is part of the charm.

Becky, in response to your reply, this is what a website reports that specializes in old toys - this is what they said about the "chunky" Little People that came out in 1991 (the next version after the plastic dog): The "Chunky" people. Although still called Little People by Fisher Price, these figures took on a significantly enlarged appearance (about twice the overall width of the originals) beginning in 1991 and lasting until 1996. Although these figures are not really any taller than the Original line, they are much wider, thus allowing for an extra measure of child play safety (i.e. they can't be swallowed).

We all survived our childhoods without choking on Fisher Price Little People, it's not that obvious a threat. "Upsizing" them seems like a protection against getting sued by the parents of the 1 child in 30 years who (almost) successfully eats one.

And yes, the new people are bigger than a child's mouth. (I am guilty of buying the new ones for my kids, just because I couldn't find the old ones).

And I HATE the new Polly Pockets. I had SO many of the original ones. I wish I'd kept them for my daughter. But, sadly, you don't think that they'll ever re-do the toys when you're little. *sigh*

"to obese lower quality plastic figures, maybe a reflection of today's body types," <--That made me laugh. Lol. I would MUCH rather my kids have the ones I played with in the 80's and 90's than the ones now. The ones now are crap, IMO. Watching this, just because. :)

But a child could still swallow the new and ugly Polly Pockets, whole.

Ohhhhh, I had one of these when I was a kid!! With my yellow house and my other people. :) So cute....

I was in the 10s in the 80s, and I had my house and people before that, so this is probably older than 80s....

Our set was from the 60s and their little heads were plastic and their bodies wood. I bought a Fisher Price doggie from Ebay who must be earlier still because he's all wood.

I understand going from wood to good quality plastic but the complete redesign of them to shapeless and bland is heartbreaking. Check out the new ones on ebay or any toy store site. The new ones don't even look easier for children to hold. They look too thick for toddler hands. All I can think is by making them blobs they've eliminated the need for screw or any hardware and that's "safer" or cheaper.

Kat, the dog is from the late 80s to early 90s. My daughter had these and we used to buy extra pieces from the Fisher Price Bits n Pieces store. The last set my daughter got new, my husband brought home after Christmas during Desert Storm, which he purchased Dec 1990 (it was the Sesame Street set). After early 91 they were discontinued as a choking hazard, even from the Bits n Pieces store. My daughter has all of her sets in about 4 different totes. Her twins will be old enough to play with them soon. We always loved the dog when my daughter was little!

I just got the original barn (the classic fp one) at a thrift store for $.75. What a steal.. my son loves it. I am watching.

You scored. If I had kids I really would get them only the old sets.
I wish there was a way to convey to Fisher Price that their old line is missed.
We do not like "New Coke".

Oh man!! I love these little things. My brother and I had so many of them growing up. Thanks for listing this - major nostalgia right here. Will definitely be watching!

They're terrifically cute even without the benefit of nostalgia, but through the roof with it. They take up hardly any room and they survive falls nicely (pets, less well). We have one perched on our flat screen tv, where antenna would be. I'm positive he lends good karma to our reception.

I love the original people and you obese comment cracked me up. I have always thought that of the new ones as well. The smaller shapes were easier for kids to handle. Oh and the Weebles that were smaller were so much cuter as well. I loved to put them on the teeter totter and launch them in the ail lol.

You're right! Weebles have packed it on too! I'd noticed Weebles weren't as good looking anymore but I hadn't put it together.

Yep it moos. I SO want the castle (still got my dragon), but man, have you seen what they go for on eBay? WOW! When I win Publisher's Clearing House, I'm gettin' 'em all!

I've wanted the castle since I was 3 years old. The trap door and dragons and little thrones and whole thing, desperately.

He would go great in my FP barn (yes, the classic one, not those hideous new ones). My sister allowed my niece to destroy all our FP playsets we had growing up. Hubby got me the barn a few years ago off of Craigslist.

My mom has our barn still, I'd try to commandeer it but our apartment isn't much bigger than it is.

I assume your barn's "moo" is still in good working order? The Fisher Price dog would be very interested if it is.

The doggie's about 2". If I had kids or grandkids I would go on ebay and find them a set from this cuter generation.

Speaking of cute, is your user icon your grandson?
