Description

The listing, Walla Walla Sweet Onion Seeds 10 (GIN gets 20) has ended.

The Walla, Walla onions often grow big as softballs and have been so popular for more than a century, that there are fairs dedicated to this one variety. This is a giant sized onion that everyone can grow, even in northern gardens. It is so sweet, juicy, and crunchy; it might be eaten like an apple. Walla Wallas are great served fresh in salads or on hamburgers, and are the best onion rings of all. Roast them or barbeque them for healthy delights. Not all onions store equally well. Sweet onions such as these should be used within a few weeks of harvesting, or freeze them.
• Seeds are the way to grow the widest variety of onions, including many uncommon and heirloom varieties. In most of the country, they must be started indoors and grown under lights at least two months before you plan to set them into the garden, or about 10 to 14 weeks before your last frost date. Because they are first-year plants, they will make large bulbs.
• Seedlings are plants that were started from seed in the current season. You can purchase them in bundles from mail-order nurseries, or in multi-packs from garden centers. Because they are first-year plants, you can expect large bulbs.
• Start your seeds indoors or in a cold frame and plant the large seedlings, pencil sized for large onions…plant small weaker ones closer and harvest green for scallions or green onions.
These are seeds from my own onions, I grew in pots on my patio, they got huge and I got lots of seeds too !
