MILITARY MEDAL NATIONAL DEFENSE: this was my dads who is now past away a few years to agent orange. I really have no place for it and know there are those who would honor the medal more then me. Do not get me wrong no man can honor the time my father served more then I. Yet items are just that to me Items. Rest in peace LGT Delbert L Goben United States Navy {stingray 1}
Questions & Comments
Wrong era for medals! Wrong hardware on some. No such rank/rating as LGT! Stingray 1 from a Kelsey grammer movie.
The 4 medals he posted were the Vietnam Campaign Medal (green and white ribbon), Vietnam Service Medal(green,yellow, red ribbon), Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and this auction is for the National Defense Service Medal. I'm not a medal collector, so I cant comment on the hardware. However I can tell you with the exception of the Good Conduct. These are the main 3 medals all Vietnam veterans earned. Including my uncle who served on the USS Jenkins 1965-1968.
I just did a Google search on the name, and it appears he is telling the truth. I found the obituary of LTJG Delbert L "Bert" Goben. Chris just got the letter mixed up. This is from the obit about his service.
"He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and then the US Air Force, until his discharge in 1974. He was Commander of the O.R. Crandall Sea Cadets Division; founder and president of Chapter 638 Vietnam Veterans of America;"
So this appears to be a nice original set of medals. It is kinda sad tho that they are gonna get broken up. They should have been listed together.
