The listing, The Poisonwood Bible has ended.
Author states the work is fiction and principal characters are pure inventions but the Congo is genuine. The historical figures and events described are real as recorded history. Its a story told by the wife and four daughters of an evangelical Baptist husband and father who takes his family on a mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. It is a compelling exploration of religion, conscience, imperialist arrogance, and paths to redemption. Barbara Kingsolver's most impressive work ever. The book is large print. The cover has lower right corner bends, a couple of front page lower right corner bends. This was a library book that I bought at a book sale and it states it inside on the lower first page with a little stamp. Does not affect the read.
