Here we have a rough fire opal. I tried really hard to get the best pics do you can see the fire shining through!! It is small and I included a pic with it next to the penny. This will probably be my last auction for fire opals since I am running low. I included a pic of the authenticity card I received with them when I purchased them.
Rough opals are great because you can sand them, drill them or set them to make them whatever you want!

It's a rough stone. I have polished a few and drilled a few myself. They are definitely not soft. They should be no problem to polish.
