Description

The listing, WONDERFULLY DELICIOUS! Key Lime seeds - FREE SHIPPING has ended.

This auction is for 15 Key Lime seeds.

Key limes are also known as Mexican lime and West Indies lime. Cultivated for thousands of years in the Indo-Malayan region, this variety has long been treasured for its fruit and decorative foliage.

It flourished in South Florida, particularly the Florida Keys, hence the current common name of Key lime.

Key limes are much smaller (ping-pong to golfball-sized) than Persian limes, nearly spherical, thin-skinned, and often contain a few seeds. Green key limes are actually immature fruits, prized for their acidity. As they ripen to a yellow color, the acid content diminishes greatly, resulting in a sweeter fruit.

The Key lime is a citrus with a 1-2" size fruit. Yellow when ripe but usually picked green commercially. It is smaller, seedier, higher acidity, stronger aroma, & thinner rind than a Persian lime. It has a unique flavor compared to other limes. The key lime usually has a more tart & bitter flavor.

Fresh Key lime is preferred for flavoring of fish and meats, marinades, making limeade, and garnishing drinks and plates due to its tantalizing bouquet and unique flavor.

The juice is used for syrups, sauces, preserves, and of course, Key Lime Pie.

The Key lime is more difficult to find outside of Florida and California markets, and may be available only seasonally and/or in gourmet markets.

So - this your chance to grow your own! Personally, I use them interchangeably with lemons and limes when preparing meals or beverages. I am always amazed at how much actually juice can be squeezed from these little fruits. It seems I get almost the equivalent from the full sized Persian limes.

The first 2 pix are the seeds and their sibling fruits. The last picture is a size comparison of the Key limes to the Persian Limes.

Propagation

They can be propagated from seed, but be sure to keep the seeds moist until they can be planted, they will not germinate if allowed to dry out

Bid, Enjoy, and Happy Lime Squeezing!
