Yellowstone erupted 600,000 years ago and it runs in that cycle so watch out the clock is ticking. Obsidian is found on the West coast in Oregon ect. also in the SW.

Obsidian is a black glassy rock that was formed from volcanoes. It's not rare, but it is pretty

I have a piece of it that I use to open packages. It is very sharp when it is shaped to be so.

As someone else said it is probably from a Yellowstone super volcano eruption hundreds of millions of years ago. I know there have been other instances of obsidian being found in Illinois and other states.

Another possibility is that it was a trade or conquest item from the local Indian tribes that lived in the area.

I can see that I live on a farm and there are Indian mounds all over the back of my properties I have found tons of arrowheads a.couple of axes grinding stones pottery. So that could be what it was. Thank you for your comments
