The listing, Numismatic Coin Lot; Canada; (small) 1 cent; “Beginning and End of an Era” has ended.
Thank you for browsing.
The winner of this auction will receive one 1920 Canadian 1 cent coin (in well circulated condition) and one (1) 2012 Canadian 1 cent coin (uncirculated) - freshly removed from a mint roll (6th pic). The 1920 coin has a metal composition of .955 copper; diameter of 19.05mm; weight 1.65 grams and mintage of 15,000,000; the 2012 coin has a metal composition of copper-plated steel;; diameter of 19.05mm; weight 1.45 grams and mintage is unknown.
In 1920 Canada, in order to conserve copper, reduced the size of the 1 cent (penny) coin from 25.40mm to 19.05mm - the size almost everyone is familiar with. Canada minted and issued it’s last 1 cent (penny) coin in 2012. It was phased out and withdrawn from circulation on February 4, 2013. This auction is inspired by the guy (in 1920) who said “They’re only making it smaller, but, mark my words, one day they’ll take it away from us completely.” and commemorates the beginning and end of an era...and a heck of a lot of memories - anyone else remember penny candy? The coin conditions represent a ‘double entendre’, or sorts, with the 1920 (representing the beginning) penny being near the end of it’s (useful) life and the 2012 (representing the end) penny having never been used.
PLEASE NOTE - You will receive the exact coins shown in the photos. The 1920 coin is in well circulated condition and 2012 in uncirculated condition. Coin easel NOT included.
Free shipping across the globe on this one...well, at least, everywhere Canada Post ships to.
