are the colored balls plastic?

The balls are acrylic, pretty widely used in body jewelry, especially tongue barbells. It doesn't mar easily, or shred like cheaper plastics, and is easier on the teeth than metal or ceramics. Great if the wearer, like my daughter, is a "chewer" or "teeth tapper or clicker". (Which, incidentally, drove me bananas both at home, and at my shop;-) Hope that helps!
