Not sure what stirs me. She is not physically attractive, but there is something. Her bold rebellion evident in the unnatural color of her hair, the “Screw You World” look of her makeup, the ever present scowl that seems to cover a softness she lets very few ever see. She sneers over the studded lip ring. Sneering at no one in particular, passing traffic, old women walking their toy poodles.
I walk by, oblivious to the smile raising on the corner of my mouth, an eyebrow raised in appreciation of her toxic yet poised beauty. Her eyebrow, shaved in stripes and adorned with a piercing that looks incredibly painful, raises subtly as if smiling back at me. “Enjoying your coffee Fuckhead?” She says
“I am,” I say. “Like your Eyebrow piercing.” It is what looks like a spear, as if tiny cannibals have attacked her face.
She smiles. “Got it when I was captured by cannibals,” she says. I look down at her table as she quickly covers up a Jane Austin novel.
I can smile fully now. I introduce myself and sit without permission.
“I’m Kelly,” she says. “You drink your coffee straight?” she asks.
“I do. How do…”
“Been watching you,” she says.
