Description

The listing, RARE! 12 Apostles Walking Iris has ended.

This rare plant is called a "Walking Iris" because the flowering stalks take root after bending over and making contact with the ground. Thus, the iris appears to “walk” as it fills the garden with graceful foliage and flowers. The walking iris is also called the Apostle plant from the belief that it will not bloom until the plant has 12 leaves.

The unusual, yet attractive, flowers of this walking iris appear to grow out of its sword-like, gray-green leaves. In actuality, the stem bearing the flowers is fanned out, resembling the leaves. These are followed by small plants (or offsets) that make aerial roots, which establish themselves quite easily. The flowers of a walking iris also open only for a day and then take a short rest to open again several days later. This rest and bloom cycle goes on for 4-6 weeks.

This Walking iris grows in full sun to light shade in well-drained soil. Since it tolerates a wide range of soil and light conditions, this hardy plant is quite versatile in the garden. The captivating colors and fragrance also make it an irresistible and welcome addition to nearly any garden.

This listing is for one cluster or "offset" plant. To plant it, simply stick the base in the ground. No pre- rooting is necessary.

I hope your offer another walker, as I meant to bid more at the last minute, but got side tracked and used up my remaining credits.

It will need to be watered (maybe) every other day, or every three days during the heat of summer. Other than that, it's (so far) been a pretty maintenance-free plant.

Well it's not like a ground cover...but it has long branches that come out and re-grow. Think of it as like a spider plant?
