I bought this on ebay about two years ago, and used it only one time. Mainly just sat in my drawer. Its a 4 USB port. So, basically without getting too techie, if you laptop or desktop lacks USB ports, then you would purchase this item to hookup more items that require USB ports. Hope that makes sense. Its a generic brand. I recently tested it out and it works.
