The listing, Rare Antique Anthology of Witchcraft, Magic & Alchemy Book, 1958 Scarce Occult Iconography has ended.
This book was printed in 1958, and is actually the first American edition. The previous edition was published in 1931 in London, by the author Emile Grillot de Givry. It is a hardcover, canvas bound with original dustjacket. The book is in very good condition with light damage to dustjacket on upper spine. So, it is an antique.
The book has 395 pages, and illustrations on almost every page. Full of scarce examples of ancient depictions of all things relating to the supernatural world, as the full title of the book is "The Pictorial Anthology of Witchcraft, Magic & Alchemy", and it presents itself as an iconography as well, with nearly 400 illustrations.
From dustjacket:
The most comprehensive collection of symbols and illustrations ever gathered from the vast store of occult manuscripts dating from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the 19th century.
This iconography is the only volume of its kind, and constitutes such a broad coverage of manifestations and practices attributed to sorcerers, magicians and alchemists that it deserves of prominent place in the library of every person - even those only slightly interested in the occult.
This is not mere imagination; it rests on a basis of historic fact.
Anyone would think, after absorbing the contents of this unusual book, that he could become a sorcerer, magician or necromancer. And well he might. DeGivry gives his sources so completely and includes such a thorough index that no matter what you seek in occult practices, manifestations and symbols, you will find it!
This book is well preserved and is ready for your library. This is October, and the perfect time for my treasured book to present itself to its new owner.
