the only markings I see are the engraving on the blade in Chinese and it says China on the other side of course

yes as sharp as the law allows them to be....if you want it razor sharp the you will have to put the finishing edge on it

have you ever tried to chop somthing with it? Can you chop things with it, or would that shatter the blade?

it is a collectible...so I really don't think that most people would want to chop things with it....but I could be wrong

There are a lot of cheap knock off katanas out there, a great deal of them coming from china, and they are so cheap that if you try to chop anything with them, they shatter. Those knockoffs are virtually worthless.
