Description

The listing, 10 Garlic Chive PLANTS not seeds !*!*!*! has ended.

Winner will receive TEN (10) Garlic Chive PLANTS! ! !

Garlic Chives have wide flat leaves and a bulb similar to a skinny green onion underground.

As you can see I have quite a patch. They are wonderful fresh or dried.

You can even eat or cook with the blossoms! ! Google Garlic Chives and you will find many uses for them ! !

I will dig and trim them (to fit in the shipping envelope) as soon as the auction is won.

After your cuttings are established and growing, if you do not want them to spread, harvest the white blossoms BEFORE they set seed. (use them in salads or cooking).

Garlic chives are very suitable for container gardening. In northern states (after the first hard frost) put container in a garage until spring (or If left outside, cover with a plastic bag and uncover when temp. reaches 40F) and they will sprout next spring.

In open ground they are perennial and will return year after year. After a few years you may have to dig, divide and separate. (and share ! ! !)

If you want seeds from them let the flowers go to seed and collect them before they have a chance to drop.

In order to ship free I will trim them to fit in the mailing envelope. These plants are over 2 feet tall not including the flowers which are even taller.

If you don't want them trimmed let me know and you can pay the extra shipping charges.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

No buyers remorse.

All Listia rules apply.

Will ship to VERIFIED Listia address USA only/Local pick up also available.

Hi Gardengrower, I live in Oregon where we get freezing temps and snow. My chives always come back every year, with no protection for the winter, just thought I would add that they are very hearty plants.

Great! Oh we have freezing temps and snow also. Our normal growing zone is 5/6. Last year it was -30F. (that may have temporarily changed our zone to 4/5!) -20F is usually the norm here and as you can see the lower temps didn't bother my garlic chive patch at all! Even my onion chive patch did real well. Thanks for the input!!

Is there a difference between the white flowering garlic chives and the purple ones? Mine are purple. I might have to bid on these too!!! :D

Yes, the ones I have for auction are GARLIC chives. They grow the same, all parts are edible and they have FLAT leaves and large white flower heads that produce seed. They will grow in large pots that you can overwinter in a garage or barn (like mine) with no problem. I prefer mine in open ground.

The other ones with the smaller rounder purple flowers (that also produce seed) are ONION chives. Their leaves are round, not flat and like garlic chives all parts are edible.

With both of these wonderful herbs, they can become invasive if you let all of the flowers go to seed. You do not have to sow seed every fall to get your onion OR garlic clump to grow bigger, the clump will expand itself on its own slowly. Let either one go to seed and just drop anywhere, unless you are trying to fill a large area, you will be in a mess.

I hope this answers your question. If I wasn't clear feel free to contact me again!
