The listing, Russian Nesting or "Matryoshka Dolls" - An Adorable 9 Doll Set! has ended.
A matryoshka doll, also known as Russian nesting doll or babushka doll, refers to a set of wooden dolls of decreasing size placed one inside the other. Traditionally the outer layer is a woman, dressed in a sarafan, a long and shapeless traditional Russian peasant jumper dress. The figures inside may be of either gender; the smallest, innermost doll is typically a baby turned from a single piece of wood. The word "matryoshka", literally "little matron", is a diminutive form of the Russian female first name "Matryona"
This is an adorable 9 doll nesting doll set I picked up and was fascinated with. They range in size from 4 inches down to the baby which measures barely 3/4 inches. They are all hand-painted, but the 3rd doll (see pictures) is losing it's paint as shown by the purple color. I don't know why the wood is colored purple under the paint. Perhaps it's a primer of some sort. The paint on all the others is intact. There is no country of origin mark on these but they will certainly make you smile.
If you have any further questions feel free to drop me a line and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Shipping will be free. I'm not offering a GIN because of the paint on the 3rd doll. I'll just let it play out and see what you think.
Thanks so much for looking and good luck!
