Could you please give me an idea of the weight of this fabric. By that I mean is it heavy therefore more suited for upholstery? Or, is it iight and more suited for clothing? Thank you for any help you can give me. Stacey Alexander
A 54in width cotton fabric is generally not a quilt TOP cotton weight, although as a backing, it'd be fine and the heavier weight on it would probably give the quilt sustenance and body.
The large scale print is also generally not seen on apparel fabric as it'd be too hard to match up the pattern when seaming.
It's more of a home decor weight, suitable for window treatments or pillows and such.
It could possibly be used as an upholstery weight, although that's something that the sewer would need to use their personal judgement on. I've personally used quilt cotton to cover a footstool before, and that's not the intended use for that weight of fabric (and a few quilters i know would lol at me for doing so...) But i'm odd, i also use vintage bed sheets for quilts and others would think the weight too light.
It's basically a personal preference how you'd use this. But it IS a home decor weight.
Hope that helps. I may be wrong, but that's my personal perspective.
Thank you for answering my questions and giving me more insight and knowledge of fabrics. It is a quite diverse industry. At 54" wide and in a print I was personally leaning toward an upholstery type fabric. Thanks so much for all the great information. This does help. Stacey
On the selvedge is says that it is treated for stain repellent by DuPont, so I would assume from that, that it is an upholstery fabric suitable for pillows, ottomans, etc..
